D.J. Moore is not the only Carolina Panthers rookie that has been impressing during the second week of OTAs. Rookie cornerback Donte Jackson had a great day Tuesday getting a shot with the first defensive group per multiple reports.

Jackson, who was drafted No.55 overall is slated to get reps at both nickel and cornerback during the remainder of OTAs and minicamps per a report from Stephen Igoe of 247Sports.

As Max Henson of Panthers.com notes, Jackson “got an extended look” at corner on Tuesday.

Jackson is known to have a nose for the football. In three seasons with the Tigers, he recorded 110 tackles. In 2017, he appeared in 11 games recording 45 total tackles (29 solo, 16 assisted) in addition to an interception and a sack.

His best game of the 2017 campaign came in a win against Florida. In that contest, he recorded nine tackles (four solo, five assisted) and a pass deflection. He was second on the team in tackles during that contest.

Jackson has been compared to former Panther Josh Norman by head coach Ron Rivera due to his swagger and talkative nature. He could be what the Carolina Panthers have been missing ever since Norman’s departure. By all accounts, Jackson plays physically and unafraid. He seems like the type of player you would want covering your best receiver. That type of swagger and physicality were trademarks of the Carolina Panther defenses from two or three years ago.

It will be interesting to see what type of role Jackson will have with this team from here on out. Jackson, like Moore, appears as though he has the talent to make an impact immediately. I have a feeling he will be a defensive staple of the team for years to come as the team transitions to a youth movement.
